Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad has announced the release of its latest medium format camera, the 100-megapixel 907X & CFV 100C, offering a blend of modular design and advanced technology.
The 907X & CFV 100C features a 100-megapixel back-illuminated sensor, an upgrade from the previous 907X & CFV II 50C model which offers a 50-megapixel sensor,effectively doubling the resolution.
One of the key attributes of the 907X & CFV 100C, though, is its modular design, allowing it to be used in three different configurations:
- 907X Camera Body: The 907X, when combined with the CFV 100C, forms what is described as the smallest yet most powerful medium format camera in the industry. It is compatible with XCD, HC/HCD, and Xpan lenses.
- Compatibility with Hasselblad V System Film Cameras: The CFV 100C is designed to integrate with Hasselblad V System cameras, like the 500 and 200 series. This allows photographers to use their film cameras with the high-resolution digital sensor of the CFV 100C.
- Use in Technical Cameras: The CFV 100C can also be used with technical film cameras, benefiting from its high-resolution sensor, touchscreen display, and rich colour reproduction.
The design of the 907X & CFV 100C pays homage to Hasselblad’s heritage, featuring a waist-level viewfinder, leather-like coverage, and a chrome frame. The viewfinder can be tilted from 40 to 90 degrees, offering options for different perspectives.
In terms of image quality, the CFV 100C utilizes Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) to ensure accurate colour reproduction. The camera captures images in both JPEG and RAW formats, offering a 16-bit colour depth and a 15-stop dynamic range. The ISO sensitivity also starts as low as 64, allowing for detailed image capture.
The 907X & CFV 100C also introduces an advanced autofocus system, featuring Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) with 294 zones and covering 97% of the focus range. Additionally, the new Hasselblad camera includes face detection capabilities, facilitating portrait photography in various settings.
Another notable feature of the CFV 100C is its built-in storage system, offering 1TB of space, a first for a modular camera. This feature allows storage of up to 4600 RAW images directly on the camera.
In terms of physical characteristics, the 907X & CFV 100C is lighter and more compact than its predecessor, weighing 120g less. This reduction in weight is aimed at enhancing comfort and stability during extended shooting sessions.
