As we said goodbye to 2023, our Camera Jabber Photographer of the Year (CJPOTY) 2023/24 contest also concluded. Throughout last year’s twelve rounds, we curated a shortlist of 120 standout photographs, with ten images selected each month. Over the last few weeks, our distinguished panel of judges has scrutinised the shortlist to find their top three photographs.
The winner of the first-placed image, as determined by our judges, wins a £1000 voucher from MPB, in addition to receiving a trophy and the honour of being named ‘Camera Jabber Photographer of the Year 2024’. The second and third-place photographers each win vouchers valued at £500 and £250, respectively.
It is with great excitement that we announce the top three photographs in reverse order:
Third: Linda Wride
Linda’s superb composition and perfect timing caught the judges’ eyes. We love how the diver is suspended in mid-air while the rocks beneath the water make the danger of the endeavour clear – not that the onlooker above seems concerned!
Second: Marketa Zvelebil
Marketa caught an incredibly gentle interaction between this pair of lions, who, she informed us, subsequently became parents to cubs. The Marketa’s focus and her aperture selection are spot-on, and we love how the hues of the softly blurred background harmonise with the colours of the lions. Courtesy of the Nikon D850, the image is bursting with detail.
First: Pawel Zygmunt
Pawel’s image is striking because of its exceptional depiction of scale and solitude. The head torch worn by the walker creates a sense of impending nightfall, while the trail extending behind them hints at the lengthy journey they have undertaken.
Congratulations Pawel. In addition to receiving a voucher for £1000 from MPB, you are the Camera Jabber Photographer of the Year 2024.
