ARRI’s Signature Prime lenses for large-format filmmaking cameras are now available in full through camera rental houses and for sale via venues like B&H.
Ranging in price from $24,920 to $39,950 apiece, the 16 focal lengths were first announced alongside the ARRI ALEXA LF in February of 2018.
The Signature Primes cover ultra-wide at 12mm to the long telephoto at 280mm. They can also be converted to full-frame and other cameras through available LPL mount adapters.
With image circles of up to 46mm, the lenses will cover the large-format sensor of the ALEXA LF at at 36.70 x 25.54mm. (In cinematography, full-frame and above is large-format. The large-format ALEXA LF sensor is slightly bigger than full frame.)
The set is the first from ARRI designed specifically to address digital sensors and cameras. The line of lenses are well regarded for their warm smooth skin tone, soft bokeh and controlled, delicate flares.
Each lens has a matched T-stop of T1.8 (F-stops describe an estimate fraction of the aperture while T-stops are an exact measurement of light levels by iris.) A detachable Magnetic Rear Filter Holder gives quick swapping for a variety of compatible glass elements and optical filters to create effects and enhance bokeh and flaring.
The ARRI Group manufactures, rents and distributes filmmaking cameras, lighting and media. Their ARRI Orbiter LED modular lighting system was debuted domestically during PhotoPlus this last October.
Announced for January delivery at a price point of $43,999, Sigma’s line of Classic Art Prime Cine full-frame, PL mount lenses offer similar features and coverage.
