It appears that SanDisk has snuck one under the radar. Yes, snuck. It’s a word. A new listing has appeared on the SanDisk website for a new 2TB UHS-I V30 full-sized SD card. Despite being UHS-I cards, they offer read and write speeds up to 250MB/sec and 150MB/sec, respectively.
Of course, you need a proprietary SanDisk reader to hit those speeds (or maybe the ProGrade PGM0.5), but it should max out in every UHS-I camera you can put it in. It’s V30, offering a guaranteed 30MB/sec minimum write speeds, the standard for UHS-I video.
SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro UHS-I SD Cards
It’s been a while since SanDisk first launched its 1TB SD and microSD cards. SanDisk initially unveiled the 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card back at Photokina 2016. It finally went on sale in 2019, along with 1TB microSD cards – and that 1TB microSD card is still working to this day.
Ok, so the 1TB card release was delayed by a little while. But it’s still been more than five years since 1TB SD cards hit the market. Footage needs get larger every day, and people need more storage today. And now we have a 2TB option.
While the extra read and write speeds the card offers over the UHS-I standard won’t help you in the camera, they will help you when it comes time to offload all that footage onto the computer. But even at a full 250MB/sec, a full 2TB card will still take around 2 hours to copy.
If you shoot a lot of footage over several days, it can be a great way to keep everything together. Just make sure you back up regularly along the way. There’s no word yet on when or if we’ll see a 2TB SanDisk Extreme Pro microSD card.
Price and Availability
At the moment, the 2TB SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SD Card only appears to be available through the SanDisk website for $299. I expect it’ll pop up in the usual places soon.
